The May 1st Kings Point Computer Club’s Last Meeting of the 2011-2012
Season
A notice was sent out that we didn’t intend to plan a meeting for this
last get-together;
Instead, we asked everyone who attends to come with computer questions,
things they had in mind which were problems they were unable to deal
with themselves.
Happy surprise! We were greeted with many questions, Both Jerry Frank,
President of the Club and David Waterman, Computer Maven, worked
together to answer all questions asked. Jerry confided that he deleted
Windows #8 from our computer. Jerry stated that he will try Windows #8
again, however, “It is too raw” too many flaws at this time, it will be
tweaked and re-tweaked many times before it is a workable program and
ready for release to users.
Jerry needed to re-install all of our programs one-by-one. He doesn’t
advise anyone to run Windows 8 until it comes out as a refined program.
Windows 8 can be installed over Vista and Windows 7 as an upgrade when
it comes out in the fall. XP users will not be able to install Windows 8
as an up-grade; treat it as a new program. XP programs would have to be
installed one-at-a-time with the knowledge that it may not accept some
of the older programs. If you are having trouble with Internet Explorer
or Fire Fox, you may download a free version of Opera which works very
well with it.
We would love to be able to take over Club Med for 3 night and 4 days.
If we get 400 members we can get C.M. and we will take over Club Med
entirely, no other guests including children. As of last month’s report,
206 people gave deposits.
Please open our Website and click on the “Alerts” button and you will
find out all about CLUB MED. If you are interested, don’t
hesitate, join by making your reservations, contact

We discussed “Team Viewer.” This lets a maven into your computer to
assist you in getting it repaired. It can also be used to present
programs which Pamela Tabak has done from Toronto.
Another topic of discussion was Ink Refills of cartridges. Costco was
felt to be the most reliable. This being decided as the best deal, you
are advised to try this successfully only twice. After that, you are
liable to have a breakdown in the cartridge. Use with Caution is the
advice.
I wish all of you a happy, healthy summer and look forward to seeing you
in September. Darn, isn’t that a great title for a song?
Regards, Jerry, President
Respectfully submitted, Phyllis Frank, Secretary
